WESTS TIGERS
Home Ground: Campbelltown Stadium, Leichhardt Oval
Coach: Benji Marshall
Position: 13th
Considering the WESTS TIGERS prior record of three consecutive wooden spoons, their current standing above four teams and finishing in 13th place represents a notable accomplishment. In his inaugural season with the joint venture, the team's captain and new recruit, Jarome Luai, has made a significant impact, having previously achieved four consecutive premierships with the Panthers. Although his performances may not have fully met Luai's expectations, it is undeniable that he has exerted a positive influence on the team as a whole and offered strong attacking options that have been missing. Adam Doueihi's performance towards the end of the season was a positive factor for the Tigers; in particular, his match-winning field goal during the Tigers' exciting victory against the Titans in Round 20, which greatly delighted the Leichhardt Oval fanbase. Doueihi also scored a try and played a starring role in the Tigers’ win over the Bulldogs in Round 22, which was one of the upsets of the season.
Api Koroisau and Jahream Bula demonstrated impressive performances within the Tigers' spine this season, while the new addition, Terrell May, provided a significant presence in the middle, and his brother, Taylan May, was a thrilling late-season addition. The mid-season transfer of Lachie Galvin to the Bulldogs, however, presented a significant challenge for the Tigers. After his signing with Canterbury Bulldogs was confirmed amid turmoil and controversy in late May, the Tigers lost their next four games. Although the Tigers showed significant improvement in 2025, one might suggest their performance could have been even better, considering their relatively fortunate situation regarding injuries.
Benji Marshall has answered some critics regarding his coaching and he gets s pass mark, although notable concerns still persist. A primary question revolves around whether he possesses the ability to cultivate the resilience that has been lacking at the Wests Tigers, who have unfortunately missed the playoffs for fourteen consecutive years. The team faced numerous challenges at the beginning of the year, and while their mid-season performance was exceptional, their final month was rather disappointing and fell flat.
Thankfully, they’ve recruited a couple of very capable second rowers for 2026. Knights forward Kai Pearce-Paul will join the Tigers next season, as will Mavrik Geyer from the Panthers. Jock Madden will return to the club from Brisbane to boost the halves depth.
